These five apps make your life easier while traveling. They also help to stay organized and navigate through your day-to-day travel life. All apps are all my personal favorites and used on my round-the-world-trip.
- Flexiroam
When you land in a new country, the most important thing is to connect to the mobile network to navigate to your accomodation. Using an eSim makes your life easy. It’s a digital sim card, which is already installed on your smartphone (check before if your phone enables eSim).
Through an app, you can choose different data plans and duration. There are many eSim providers available like Airalo. The benefit of Flexiroam is the Global eSim, which provides you access to +160 countries. If you travel to many countries in a short time period, you don’t need to install a new eSim for every country. It seems pretty expensive at first but Flexiroam has regular 80% discounts. Plus: They have an 24/7 Whatsapp customer service.

2. GlobeConvert
This is an obvious app to know how much you will spend in the new currency. But this app is very intuitive, converts in all currencies and easy to use.

3. Tripcoin
After swiping credit cards and spending cash, it can be overwhelming to see all spendings at the end of the month. Also if you are on a budget and don’t want to overspend, this app is very helpful. After testing some apps, this is the most convenient (for me).
You can filter for countries, dates and have different statistics. Also you can set your main currency. Every time you add a spending in a different currency, it will automatically convert and save it in your main currency.

4. GoogleTranslator
In many countries english translations are somewhere to read but sometimes not. Even not for the public transport signs or restaurant menus.
Google Translator has a really helpful camera feature and translates the signs instantly in your language on your screen. From there it is easy to take a screenshot.

5. Hostelworld
This app is a no brainer but the feature that stands out to other booking apps, is the chat function.
Every time you book, you are added to a group chat within the app with people who are also in the hostel at that time. So, it’s easy to socialize and meet up.
