Travel Tip #8: Applying for an Indian Visa

Amazing! You decided to travel to India and are now looking to apply for a visa? It is very easy to apply and usually very fast. My 30-day e-Visa took two days to be accepted. Here is some guidance to fill out the form.

First check on the official Indian Visa website, if your country is eligible for an e-Visa and what kind of visa you need. At least 4 days before and max. 30 days before your arrival you are allowed to apply for an 30-day e-Visa.

1.Click on “Apply here for e-Visa” at the bottom of the page and you will get to this page. Fill out the general information and kind of visa you need.

2.Fill out further personal infos and your passport details. It is also necessary to fill out the ID no. of your national ID card (not passport).

For visible identification mark, enter for example your eye color like this: Eye Color: brown.

The educational qualification can be confusing depending on the country. Here are some explanations: Graduate (University or college degree); Post Graduate (Master’s degree, PhD); Professional (professional training/certification); Higher Secondary (High school degree); Matriculation (10th grade education); Illiterate (No education).

3.Enter your home address. Also they want some information about your parents like nationality and place of birth.

It is also necessary to enter your occupation including your profession, company name, company address and contact details.

4.Enter your places to visit in India in one line: e.g. Delhi; Mandawa;… and previous Indian visa information.

Also enter the countries you visited the last 10 years. If not all countries fit in, be sure to enter the ones first that are stamped in your current passport. At the airport no one checks it, but in case questions come up.

South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) are these countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. If you visited some of these the last 3 years, mark it.

Reference in India you can enter the name and address of your first accommodation in India. And enter the reference in your home country.

5.Answer the next questions with yes/no.

6.Upload a current profile photo that fits in the frame. It must be JPEG and max. 1 MB. 7.Upload the page of your passport in pdf and max. 300 kb. If you don’t have a pdf converter, there are plenty online pdf converter like this website JPEG to PDF.

8.Review your application and correct it in case you missed something. Proceed to the payment page and pay with credit card.

Now you are all done and can wait for a response. They will contact you via email for the visa. Print it out and you are good to go!
