There is a difference if you travel longterm or taking a holiday for a few weeks. It is a misconception that you are on a longterm holiday while traveling. Depending on the budget, it can be more or less comfortable.
Holidays are about: eating out everyday, doing all activities, sleeping in a hotel, taking the shortest and comfortable way of transportation, experience the country in a short amount of time, having a fixed plan.
Traveling is about: meeting strangers along the way, changing plans regularly, sleeping in hostel dorms, taking your time, resting, taking a break, cooking in hostel kitchens with 10 others, taking overnight buses and trains, slow traveling, volunteering on farms and in hostels, planning your trip along the way.
Both travel styles have their reasoning. None of them are right or wrong. Acknowledging both Everyone chooses their own way.
