Travel Inspo #5: Social Dinner at Absalon in Copenhagen

Absalon was one of my favorite dinner experiences in Copenhagen. At the social dinner 200 people, locals and travelers, are sharing a meal together. It’s in an old church in the Vesterbro area.

Before getting there, it is neccessary to buy a ticket upfront. You can try your luck a the door, but usually it is sold out in advance. One ticket is 60 DKK (weekday)/ 100 DKK (weekend).

When you arrive, one of the team members greet and register you. They assign you to a random table with the group you are there. The tables are all in a long row in all different colors. On the table are already all plates and cutlery.

After greeting everyone and having a chat at the table, 2 people from each colored table go to the kitchen to pick up the food. After everyone’s back, you share the meal with everyone. There is always enough food and also for a second plate.

It is super interesting what different kind of people are getting there. Travelers from the US, Netherlands, Germany and locals from Copenhagen.

After dinner everyone brings back the plates, cutlery and glasses back to the kitchen, so everything is cleaned up quickly. Usually after the dinner, another activity is planned like game nights. It is up to you to stay or go on.

I can highly recommend going there, if you are in Copenhagen. The sense of community and sharing the meal is really amazing.
